Print Big on Church Road!
Families from Barton Hill got messy in a screen-printing workshop in February, run by University of the West of England and Wellspring Settlement.
Over 50 people came along to the Print Big session to help design and get stuck in with giant letters, colourful ink and paper, and the results can now be seen on Church Road!
One local parent said: “My kids were excited to go to the session, though they didn’t really know what screen-printing was before we went. They really enjoyed it, and they made some prints to take home with them as well.” The response from Eric, aged 5 was: “I liked getting to do all the letters that are in my name.” while another child attending said: “It was cool that we got to make shapes out of letters. It’s kind of like coding because you type stuff and make shapes, but here you use letters and make shapes without needing a computer.”
The mural will be displayed on a siding at 222 Church Road (over the road from the billboards by St George Community Centre) until July 18th, so head on up to take a look whilst it’s there. Micah, aged 8 said: “I am happy and proud of my work!”.

Wellspring Settlement Arts Co-ordinator Shanti Sherson said: “It was so great to see the children so engaged with the session and so proud of the work they’d done. They all went home with huge colourful letters, and even bigger smiles on their faces! It’s so good to see the completed mural up on Church Road, it looks amazing!”
