Community Research Meeting – AI in Healthcare

University of Bristol researchers would like to meet with local people to discuss the use and development of AI tools in healthcare research. UK minoritised people experience health inequalities and worse health outcomes. They are worried that AI tools in healthcare could make things worse not better. But maybe they can help too – we don’t know yet.

They want to make find out if using AI tools to support healthcare can be done inclusively, safely and for the benefit of diverse UK minoritised people. If not they want to make sure it is restricted until safer models can be built. They want UK minoritised people to be part of decisions about the kinds of AI technologies built to support healthcare research.
Over a series of meetings, the researchers will be meeting with:
– local Bristol-based people from diverse, UK minoritised communities who are interested in healthcare and the use of AI in healthcare
– computer scientists, who work on AI technology
– healthcare researchers interested in the use of AI technologies
– moral philosophers who are concerned about the use of AI in healthcare, especially in relation to minoritised populations.

The team want to involve people with diverse and UK minoritised backgrounds to share interests and concerns and to gain direct oversight of the AI tools that might be used to develop healthcare research. To do this, they want to discuss a range of different questions, to learn about AI technologies in healthcare, and to find out if they can work together to design a model for good working practice and diversity community leadership in this area.
