#BigUpBartonHill Community Day

#BigUpBartonHill Community Day is taking place on Saturday 13 September 2025, from 12noon to 5pm in the Barton Hill Urban Park on Morley Road

This free community day is organised by In Bristol Studio in collaboration with a group of local organisations, groups and service providers that make up the #BigUpBartonHill Network.

There will be a range of free, fun activities, demonstrations and taster sessions for children and adults to take part in, as well as the opportunity to find out about the wide range of support, advice and opportunities that are available to the local community.

Barton Hill & Redfield residents of all ages are invited to come along to celebrate all the great things that take place in the area, see the programme below for more information about what will be happening on the day:

Free Wellbeing Walk & Drop In Workshops

Wildplace Wellbeing Walk with Lamplighter Arts CIC
Meet in the garden at Barton Hill Settlement at 11am and join us in exploring nature in Barton Hill – what we discover will help us design Church Road Lantern Parade – FREE – this activity is funded by National Lottery Community Fund and Bristol CC Imagination fund.  You will arrive back at the Urban Park at 12.30pm. Everyone is invited and our pace will be dictated by the abilities of the participants on the day.

Rattles & Accessories Workshop
Jude Hutchins from In Bristol Studio will be running a free drop in workshop from 2pm-4:30pm.  Come along to this creative workshop to make your own rattles and costume accessories to show off at the BIG UP! Parade that is taking place at 4:30pm.  Make some noise for Barton Hill!! Suitable for 8 years+. 

Lantern  Workshop
Dee Moxon from Lamplighters Arts CIC will be sharing information about Church Road Lantern Parade 2025 which takes place on Saturday 6 December at 4.30pm.  Join a Collapsible Lantern Workshop from 1-4pm. Donations towards the lantern parade are welcomed. This workshop is suitable for AGES 4- 104. Lights for your lanterns can be purchased or use your own battery fairy lights, torches or bike lights. This activity is funded by National Lottery Community Fund and Bristol CC Imagination fund.

Other Activities & Information Stands:

  • It is hoped that Avonfire Services will be in attendance with a Fire Appliance providing information about keeping your family and home safe.
  • Dr Bike will be attending so bring your bicycle along for a free service/repair
  • In Bristol Studio will also be running a Tuck Shop where the community can purchase affordable healthy snacks and drinks.
  • The Little Library will be in attendance with an information stand and free activities for children/young people.
  • Imayla will be setting up an exhibition of artwork created over summer sessions and a drumming circle too.
  • Ok to Play will be setting up an  information stand to present their ongoing Barton Hill project looking at how children and families perceive play opportunities in the local area. They will also provide a loose parts playscape/activity for children – this is primarily aimed at primary age but from experience all ages will be able to engage.
  • Studio Susegad will be setting up an information stand and providing a sit down creative activity and conversation reflecting on creativity, care and connection.
  • Travelling Light Theatre Company will be providing drama and craft activities for children and families.
  • East Central Family Hub will be setting up an information stand promoting family services and activities, parenting courses & groups in the local area.
  • Greengage Project will be running Citizen Science Missions and their Conversation Station in the Ducie Road Pocket Park throughout the day.
  • Eastside Community Trust will be setting up an information stand and/or running adventure play activity for families.
  • Wellspring Settlement will be providing access to toilet facilities in the Ducie Road Community Hall, alongside a Pop-Up Cafe with delicious affordable food.  They will also providing tea, coffee and cake and a craft activity in the Urban Park (relocating to the Beam Street site if the weather is bad).
  • The event will wrap up with a Celebratory Parade from the Urban Park to the Ducie Road Pocket Park and back to the Urban Park at around 4:20pm, which will be led by Bristol’s very own The Ambling Band!
