Meet the new St. Luke’s Chaplain
A quick message from the new Chaplain based in St. Luke’s Church:
My name is Sam Sayer and I’m based at St. Luke’s Church in Barton Hill. I started my post in March, but you might have seen me around and about before that as I worked for Changes Bristol at Wellspring Settlement. I have worn a lot of different hats in my working life. I spent twenty years supporting asylum seekers and refugees, sold tickets at Bristol Old Vic theatre and was a youth worker/Chaplain at the Creative Youth Network.
You might wonder what a Chaplain does? My role is varied but essentially Chaplaincy is about supporting others by listening, and if required, offering spiritual care, such praying. Currently I’m spending some of my time getting to know older folk outside the Church. It’s important to feel connected to others and I am a big believer in the power of chat and cake. My role also involves supporting some of the activities at St. Lukes and thinking of creative ways to share God’s love through the local Church.
Please do say Hi if you see me about. I’d love to meet you.
